Spread the love

The North East side of India has always fascinated us with its scenic topography and cultural gfafdjad. The Ladakh Festival and the Hornbill Festival are prime examples of this. However, only recently there’s been another addition to this list, the Ziro Festival of Music

The 4th Edition of the Ziro festival is all set to leave a mark in history with a mad line up and one of the best locations possible for such an event. With such a vast sea of talent whose names most of us main stream media watchers wouldn’t have heard of, these are five artists to watch out for in Ziro 2015.

Dualist Inquiry

Sahej Bakshi aka by his stage name ‘Dualist Inquiry’ should definitely be one of the top names in your list. Sahej is a music producer, guitarist and cerebral agent who graduated from the Thornton Music School at USC in Los Angeles.

He is well seasoned with the music festival and club circuit in India with over 250+ performances to date. With a style that is fresh enough to call young and classy and can be vaguely classified by being called ‘Rock-influenced Electronica’.

The newest kid in town is perhaps the farthest ahead” well put Mr. Rolling Stone (Dualist Inquiry review Aug 2011).

Tetseo Sisters

So, you’ve travelled all the way to north east, in search of a world of music but who are the home ground artists you should check out? The “Tetseo Sisters” is definitely one of them. The band consists of Mütsevelü (Mercy), Kuvelü (Kuku), Azine (Azi), and Alüne (Lulu) who grew up in Kohima. The sisters come from the Chakhesang Naga tribe (one of the major tribes of Nagaland). They released their debut album “Li Chapter One: The Beginning” at the Hornbill festival in 2011 and are seasoned performers at such music festivals across India.

They recently released a song with Kenny Rio, though it’s not in native language it’s extremely well performed.

Prateek Kuhad

Ever wondered if Nick Drake was from India, what would it be like? This year relax and let time fade away with this artists soothing strumming and rich voice. Prateek is known for his unique blend of minimal, folk arrangements and pop rock melodies and his songs effortlessly reflect life’s complexities.

He recently released his debut album ‘In Tokens & Charms’, on 21st January 2015. This should be on the top of your list when it comes to unwind.

Neel and The Lightbulbs

‘Neel and the Lightbulbs’ is an acoustic four piece rock band from Kolkata. The band line-up includes Neel Adhikari (Gandu Circus, Five Little Indians), Subhodip Banerjee, Roheet Mukherjee, and Avinash Chordia (The Supersonics).

North Band @TheRoyaleIndia

NORTH is comprised of a bunch of eclectic personalities – photographers, writers, an actor, a marketing guru and a producer. The band was formed in early 2012 by Jordan Johnson (lead singer and songwriter), Akshay Deokuliar(drummer), and Shobith John (electric guitarist), who were joined shortly after by Sean and Zoe Tuckey contributing to the band bass, piano and vocals.

They debuted with their song “White Flag” – definitely worth a watch.
