Adding to the current already crowded smartphone market in India, Chinese smartphone maker-Xiaomi has launched its first device in India-Mi3. Priced at Rs 14999, this smartphone will be available from July 15 onwards.

Due to its pricing, the phone is in direct competition with mid-segment devices such as Motorola’s Moto G and Blackberry’s latest Z3. Its specifications can be compared with premium range devices offered by Samsung, Sony and local brands such as Micromax and Karbonn. This new competition in market- Mi3- has a 5-inch Full HD display and runs on a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM. Powered by Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) with Xiaomi’s proprietary MIUI skin on top, this smartphone packs 16GB internal storage, but does not support storage expansion via microSD cards- the biggest negative point it has.

Xiaomi Mi3 sports a 5-inch full high definition display and a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash, apart from a 2 megapixel front facing camera. Such product specifications have been limited to high-end devices; hence, it poses a threat to the devices in the high-end range as it offers similar features at half the price.

Mobile analyst feel that this phone offers great specifications at this price but would have do launch great advertising strategies to win the hearts and trust of the Indian consumers.
