Let’s admit it; the desire to look more beautiful is a natural instinct we all are born with. And, one of the best ways to achieve this is by using makeup. Makeup can boost our self-confidence by highlighting our best facial features and making our skin look young and well-nourished. In fact, recent studies have shown that if you wear makeup regularly, people tend to trust and like you even more.
While we are obsessed with learning everything about makeup, we have to admit that we’re not perfect. Makeup mistakes can happen to the best of us, from total rookies to the most experienced makeup connoisseurs. Check out these ten makeup blunders you might be making:
Not cleaning your makeup brushes:
Cleaning makeup brushes is a time-consuming job. As a result, many people skip the brush cleaning process altogether and use dirty brushes to apply makeup. This, however, results in all colours being mixed up together and germ buildup which not only affects the makeup application process but can potentially harm your skin.
Using nail polish remover to thin out older nail paint:
Women generally use nail polish remover to thin out old nail paints. This, however, is a big no-no! While it may solve the problem temporarily and thin the old nail paint, adding the chemicals in the lacquer will eventually break down the formula and ruin it, rendering it unusable.
Testing foundation on the back of your hand:
Why test foundation on your hand when you are gonna wear it on your face? Seems like a stupid thing to do right? But we are all guilty of doing this. Your face and hand are usually not of the same shade as they don’t receive the same amount of sun exposure. So, it is wise to test the foundation on your jawline instead to get a perfect match.
Going to bed with your makeup still on:
Sleeping with makeup is something that majority of us must have done at least once in our lifetime. But trust me, it’s not wise to make a habit of it. Falling asleep with a dirty face can make your skin look older pretty soon. Makeup clogs your pores and stretches them out, which makes the skin look rough and aged.
Storing makeup in the bathroom:
The bathroom is the place where you get ready, so storing makeup in the bathroom should be the right thing to do. Right? Well it isn’t. Storing makeup in the bathroom dries out the products and make them unfit for usage. It also makes your cosmetics more prone to collecting bacterias.
Wearing a waterproof mascara everyday:
It is not recommended to wear a waterproof mascara regularly. It will dry out your lashes and make them brittle. Also, since these mascaras are hard to remove, you’ll probably rub your eyes a lot during the cleansing process and end up losing some lashes. Instead, you can invest in water-resistant mascaras that are not too harsh on your lashes and can be easily removed.
Applying lip liner only to the edges of your lips:
Lip liner is simply amazing! And when applied correctly, it does wonders to your pout. Instead of applying lip liner only on the edges, you must outline your lips and then fill them with the liner so that it gives an even base to your lipstick.
Have you always wondered: Can I just skip all the extra time and effort it takes to apply a base coat when doing my nails at home? This, however, is not a wise thing to do. Base coat grips the nail polish, resulting in a more durable, glossy finish.
Wearing too much foundation:
Foundation is meant to conceal uneven skin tones, but not to hide your true self. Wearing too much foundation will not only give you a caked face, but as the foundation tends to set in the creases on your face, it will make your wrinkles more evident.
You’ve probably heard it a zillion times already, so you wouldn’t mind it if we say it again. You should wear sunscreen every day, all day, rain or shine. Skipping sunscreen in your makeup routine is a huge mistake. It can result in wrinkles, skin sagging, and discoloration.
So ladies, the next time you apply makeup, keep these pointers in mind and never walk out of the house with bad makeup ever again.
