A big fat Indian wedding is what every girl dreams of. It’s once in a lifetime event and it has to be perfect!
A wedding lehenga is a woman’s most coveted possession; she wants it to be more than perfect! But, do you think that just choosing the right colour for your skin tone and embroidery is all that you must be careful about? Well, think again. Not every lehenga type is meant for everyone’s body type. Everyone’s body is so different and putting a little thought in choosing the lehenga that works for your body shape will do wonders for you.
Female body types can be broadly categorised into the following 5 types:
If you have an hourglass figure, you have a well-defined waistline along with a curvy upper and lower body. This shape is considered as the most ideal shape and therefore you have the freedom of highlighting either parts of the body.
Fish cut lehenga or a flared one, net or cashmere with a deep cut choli or a high one, anything would work for you! You can pull off anything; all you need to do is carry it with style.
If you have a Pear shaped figure, you have a heavier bottom with a slightly smaller upper frame. So, your motive should be to balance your lower body with your upper body. For this, you need to choose a lehenga which doesn’t add much volume to the lower half of your body. An A-line lehenga in soft flowing fabric will suit you the best. At the same time, choose cholis with padded shoulders or puffed sleeves. Avoid tube cholis or fish tail lehengas as they bring draw attention to the base.
If you have a rectangular shaped body, your body has little or no curves and the fat is evenly distributed throughout the body. So, your focus should be to add curves to your body. Choose raw silk full flared ghagra to make your waist look smaller, thus adding the much desired curves. Also, pairing it with a plunging blouse will add to the illusion of killer curves.
If you have an apple shaped figure, your upper body and shoulders are noticeably wider than your hips. You carry maximum weight around your mid-section and have little or no waist definition. To balance your upper body and lower body, you must opt for empire length style blouses with deep necklines (preferably deep V-neck). Soft fabrics such as georgette and chiffon will bring-out the feminine side of you. As a thumb rule, always wear a bra that provides a good lift to your bust.
If your body shape resembles that of an inverted triangle (also called cone figured body), you will have broad shoulders which tapers at the hips. Your figure is that of an athlete. Although your shoulders are broad, your entire mid-section is not heavy (unlike apple body type). You must invest in a lehenga with wide flair with a lot of detailing at the bottom for that feminine oomph factor. Avoid highlighting your choli with heavy embellishment as this can make your bust look bulkier.
It’s your wedding, your D-Day, choose the right lehenga style for your body type and be the diva you always wanted to be!
