Healthy, mouthwatering fresh cooked food is what everyone would like to have at home or at while travelling. But here we are giving countless reasons to eat outside or just satisfy our taste buds with some junk foods. Don’t you feel lack of cooking time may be the culprit behind this behaviour?

Working women, mothers having small kids tend to consider cooking a second priority, mainly due to time constraints. Consequently one can try out cooking using electric cooker which may fit exactly in to our industrious lifestyle.

Cooking using electric cookers saves time and our attention to the item being cooked. A person is occupied fully while cooking on the stove as one needs to stir and to avoid red spots. Nevertheless it is not the case with the electric cookers, you can go ahead and attend to other duties while food is being cooked. You can always have healthy food even while travelling as it easily fits into your travel list.

Here are some delicious recipes you can try out using the electric cooker.

Vegetable Poha

  • Onions: 1 cup

  • Tomato: 1⁄2 cup

  • Instant Poha Mix: 1 cup

  • Boiled Carrot and peas: 1⁄2 cup

  • Cooking Oil: As required

  • Salt: To Taste

  • Soak the instant poha mix in a 3/4 cup of water.

  • Next, switch on the cooker and pour in the oil. Add onions and stir, then cover the lid and press the cook button.

  • Cook the onions covered for 4 mins and then open the lid. To this add tomatoes and salt.

  • Stir gently to mix them well. Then cover and cook for 2min.

  • After 2 min add boiled vegetables cover and cook for 1 min.

  • Fluff the soaked poha mix with a fork and then add it to the cooker.

  • Stir the mixture gently, switch off the heat, cover the lid and leave it for 2 min.

  • Take out the warm pot from the cooker and serve.

Orange Basundi

  • Milk: 2 cups

  • Milk powder: 1 cup

  • Sugar: 3-5 table spoons

  • Orange: 1/4 cup

  • Heat 1 cup of milk in a rice cooker or a non stick sauce pan for 5 min, simultaneously add the left over 1cup of milk and milk powder into a bowl and mix it with a whisk so that it forms a smooth texture. When the milk is hot add this mixture to it, also add sugar and heat it for another 10 minutes. Keep stirring from time to time, use wooden spoon for stirring. When the milk thickens you can switch off the heat and allow the milk to cool. To this add chopped orange segments. You can serve this at room temperature or chilled.

Vegetable Pulav

To cook tasty tantalizing veg. Pulav in your electric pressure cooker, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 3-4 cups of basmati rice

  • 2-3 tspn Garam masala powder

  • Chopped vegetables

  • Oil

  • Saffron color

  • Green chillies

  • Salt to taste

  • Ginger garlic paste

  • Yoghurt

  • Wash and soak the rice in a vessel for about half an hour and drain the water before you begin cooking

  • Chop your favorite veggies to add, such as onion, green peas, carrots, capsicum, etc.

  • Keep yoghurt and (garam masala) spices ready

  • Now heat up some oil in a pan and add spices and chopped vegetables, ginger garlic paste and green chillies into it

  • Cook the vegetables for some time till it leaves a spicy aroma.

  • Now add spices and yoghurt to it.

  • Stir for some time, let it turn into a thick gravy

  • Now, in your electric cooker, add basmati rice and relevant amount of water to it.

  • Add the cooked vegetable gravy to it and mix well.

  • Cover the lid and switch on the electric cooker

  • Open it after 10 minutes and add saffron to it, stir and close the lid

  • After the Pulav is cooked completely the cooker automatically turns off. Leave it to cool for some time.

  • Serve it hot with raita or salad.
