Tips & Tricks on Reducing Smartphone Addiction

February 10, 2015 132 0 0

The morning alarm rings – your hand performs the involuntary action of reaching the device – some of us make it while some us don’t – but eventually most of us end up staring at that device as if we work for the NASA and are about to get an update on the escape velocity of the satellite launched hours back. Oh cell Phones, what have you made of us!!! True Story 😉

Let’s face it, we are all just prisoners here of our own device. This relationship people share with their Smartphones is difficult to describe per se. However, it’s a perfect irony; people use technology to get social and yet the addiction can make you unsocial. The biggest drawback is probably the distraction it causes, creating a strange alienation within family members and even resulting in harmful consequences in studies or work related matters. And this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

So The Royale gives you Tips to that’ll help you optimize the usage of your cell phones.

  • SWITCH OFF THE CELL PHONE FOR A WHILE

We know your relationship with your cell phone is too pavitra but unlike the one with your partner. Yes, here you have the liberty to switch if off (if you know what I mean ;). No, not for eternity of course!!! But it’s always good to give yourself a breathing space at times. Turn off your phone when spending time with your family, or going for a movie, etc. Don’t just keep it on the silent mode, turn it off. Especially if you’re going for a meeting or have to study for an exam; a few hours away from the world won’t hurt!

  • TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS

Like the BSE/NSE the cell phone keeps on buzzing for every little thing that happens. Even for the most irrelevant reasons. Don’t keep yourself connected 24×7 to Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, or other social networks on your phone. Access them when required and besides you can always do that on your computer as well. As for text notifications from WhatsApp and similar apps, do what I do, keep it off or mute!

  • AVOID TOO MUCH OF GAMING

This point officially makes this an anti-gamer article. There’s a place and time for everything. I once happened to be in a night-out party where apparently these guys were engrossed in Candy Crush Saga. End-of-the-story 

Games in mobile were supposed to be additional features but today the things are other way around.

  • THE AIRPLANE MODE EXISTS

Yes, we all know there’s an Airplane Mode in the cell phone but do we ever use it? Trust me, keeping your phone on Airplane Mode is a good way of avoiding distraction via calls and texts, while still allowing you to work on your phone, take pictures, etc.

  • SLEEP MODE

Another mode that is available and yet not explored by many. This mode will automatically switch off your cell phone at a pre-set time.

  • SET REMINDERS

If Avoid Gaming doesn’t suit you, Set Reminders will definitely make you happy. Of course while travelling you get bored. But remember it is not essential to only indulge in gaming. While some of you would also have the habit of playing the games before you doze off. In such situations remind yourself.

  • STICKY NOTES

What am I referring to? At your work place, make sure that there’s a sticky note right in front of you that keeps nagging you.

  • BEFRIEND SOMEONE WHO WON’T CUT YOU SLACK

At your home, Mothers do this all the time. Make sure you have a friend or a colleague that does the same.

  • INDULGE IN OTHER ACTIVITIES

Let me make one thing very clear – Stop being bovaristic about crossing 700 levels in Candy Crush. That will never be regarded as an achievement or a career milestone.

So indulge in other activities like reading books, or take up a hobby/outdoor activity.

  • MEET YOUR FRIENDS – IN REALITY

Staying connected with your friends is one thing and meeting them is another. Make plans for the weekend and spend time with humans and not machines.

Although we may find humor in the points mentioned, there’s a harsh reality that’s screaming out loud; it better be heard. The roti-kapda-makaan-aur-cellphone theory better not be taken too seriously. If there’s anything you need to take up seriously; it’s the Royale 😉 Keep reading this space for more such stuff from us.
