Lakmé Fashion Week’s Summer Resort 2017 is just ‘round the corner. Sumita Chakraborty tells you why you should not miss this amazing event that’s happening from February 1-5, 2017.

Oh yes, ‘tis the season for high fashion. It’s the time to kick-start Lakmé Fashion Week’s Summer Resort 2017 in association with This is the 18th year and this time, get geared to see spectacular shows, designers and creative concepts. This stellar event is going to be held at the incredible JioGarden at BKC, Mumbai.

Lakmé Fashion Week has seen amazing designers including Payal Singhal, Shane Peacock, Anita Dongre, Falguni, Aneeth Arora, Tarun Tahiliani, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Monisha Jaising, Ritu Kumar, Narendra Kumar, Abraham & Thakore, amongst others in the past many years. These high powered designers and much more will again be displaying their collection from February 1-5 2017 at an all new venue – JioGarden, Mumbai.


  • This season gets ready to spot fresher faces including Anjali Lama, Nepal’s first transgender model.

  • The first gender neutral model, Petr Nitka, will also be walking the ramp.

  • Supermodel Varsha Thapa will also be at the spectacular show.

  • Makeup ace Donald Simrock will be back doing the makeup.

The amazing Lakmé Grand Finale will see Anita Dongre, one of India’s best-known prêt-à-porter designers, presenting her couture collection that fuses a variety of chic silhouettes, styles and designs. Her collection will be inspired by Lakmé’s beauty statement for the season – ‘Liquid Gold’.

Peep Show

Costa neoClassica @TheRoyaleIndia

The opening show will see an amazing fashion show on the Costa neoClassica cruise by acclaimed designer Monisha Jaising. She will be showcasing her Summer/Resort ’17 collection that gives a sense of drama, glitz, ultra-glam outfits that emphasise sharp angles and play with varying tones throughout the collection.

Special Event

  • On February 2, 2017, Mandeep Nagi, Design Director of Shades of India, showcases her summer collection with girls from Kranti modelling the clothes. Kranti, the Mumbai-based NGO, has won international recognition for rehabilitating girls from the red light area.

  • Experimental space, Stage One will this season be renamed as ‘Studio’ and will focus on conceptual themes in fashion. New talents – the best of the Gen Next alumni such as Jayanti Reddy, Sohaya Misra, Gaurav Khanijo, Paridhi Jaipuria and Naushad Ali will be showcasing their Summer/Resort 2017 collections here. Celebrated designers such as Sanjukta Dutta, Dev R Nil, Savio Jon, Mandeep Nagi and a lot more will be participating in this event with their exclusive artistic initiatives.

  • INIFD will be the official knowledge partner for Lakmé Fashion Week for the 156h consecutive season and will present the prestigious Gen Next show at LFW SR 2017. The five labels making their debut includes Poochki – Ishanee Mukherjee & Anirudh Chawla, Arcvsh – Pallavi Singh, Nakita Singh, Soumodeep Dutta and The Pot Plant – Resham Karamchandani and Sanya Suri.

  • Sustainable Fashion and Textile Day will take a bow. Designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh, Aneeth Arora, Abraham and Thakore, Naushad Ali, Soham Dave, among others will present India’s rare and finest concepts. Moreover, there will be a show by IMG Reliance Ltd. dedicated to Kutch artisans during the day that will showcase artisans from Kutch as designers such as Chaman Siju, Somaiya Kala Vidya, Sufiyan with Madame Hall and Shrujan. There will also be a trendsetting show- presenting the Sustainable Man
