As the Final Round of 16 nears the end, the 59th season of Europe’s Premier club football league organized by UEFA, known to the world as CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, is heading to one of the most dramatic finishes ever.

The Champions League showcases 32 of the most successful European clubs, who compete against each other to outplay and outclass the best, finally crowning themselves the leaders of European Football. The tournament operates into group and knock-out round, where all the teams are divided into eight four-team groups. Each team play the other team in a two-game home and away game, based on which they are selected to go further into the qualifying round. After the three qualifying rounds, the teams advance to group stage playoff, then to a knockout phase where the Finals are held. Matches are usually played on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The table below gives an exact idea as to how and when the matches are held for the 2013-14 seasons all draws are decided at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

As we gear up towards 2nd leg in the round of 16, two English teams will be trying real hard to make it to the Quarter finals, after Arsenal were humiliated at home and away by Bavarian and Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

Manchester United and Chelsea will be taking on Olympiacos and Galatasaray respectively. Although United will be playing at home, they still have a 2 goal deficit which they will have to overcome, before they think of moving over to the next round. On the contrary, Chelsea were held to a 1 goal draw at Istanbul, so being a home game, they would surely hold an upper hand over the Turkish giants.

Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid are the other 2 clubs who are yet to finish their 2nd leg games, taking on Zenit Saint Petersburg and Schalke 04. Real are virtually through to the next round, thanks to two goals each from Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, the 6-1 scoreline is something Real would expect to leave untouched, unless Schalke 04 score 6 goals or more and create history.

The others who have already made it through the Quarter-Finals are the Big 3 Spanish clubs, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid and the French side Paris Saint-Germain. The Manchester United- Olympiacos game would be a big decider and one game, which could shock everyone around the globe, or seems like United can turn tables at Old Trafford as expected by them. Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid look to seal the final two places.

Cristiano Ronaldo would be looking to extend his goal scoring streak, as he tops the charts with 11 goals closely followed by Zlatan Ibrahimović with 10 goals. The Madrid forward and St-Germain striker are sure to lock horns as both the teams have made it to the Quarter-Finals. Below is a list of the Top-5 goal scorers in the Champions League for 2013-14 seasons.

The draw for the semi-final and Final would be decided on 11th April, 2014. The final is set to kick off on 24 May 2014 at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal. So let’s hope, the best inter-Europe club is the King of European Football, or would it be another shocker like the old ‘90s.
