Even before Panasonic Eluga smartphones were launched late on Wednesday, the phone was already available online for a price of Rs 17,490. The smartphone was listed by a retailer on eBay website along with manufacturer warranty. Mahesh Telecom, a retailer operating out of Mumbai had offered the phone at discounted price of Rs. 18,590 against an MRP of Rs. 20,990. Also, he had posted an alleged brochure image of the phone.
On Wednesday at an event in Delhi, Panasonic officially launched its new Eluga U flagship in India. It has been priced at Rs 18,990 giving a competition to Xiaomi Mi 3 and the Micromax Canvas Knight which fall in this price range. Running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box, the phone has some applications preloaded by Panasonic. Eluga U is a dual-SIM (Micro-SIM) smartphone with 2G and 3G support, the phone comes with some customisations in terms of the home screen.
The phone sports a 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front camera. With a 16GB of internal storage, the phone supports external micro SD card up to 32GB. Connectivity options in the phone include Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS/ A-GPS. The display, 5-inch (1280×720 pixels) IPS HD has an OGS process along with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.
