The 2013 MTV EMAs (also known as the MTV Europe Music Awards) was recently held at the Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam, Netherlands. The night’s action was not limited to the performance stage, as chart-toppers took to the podium to collect spring loaded statuettes. With the three pop divas in contention; Kate Perry, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus, the prize for ‘Best Female’ was the most closely watched battle at the 20th annual European awards ceremony. In the end, it was Katy Perry who won the award for ‘Best Female Singer’, who won her third EMA prize in the process.
Miley Cyrus was awarded ‘Best Video’ for her “Wrecking Ball” album. While British-Irish boy band One Direction took the prize for ‘Best Pop’, Harry Styles won the ‘Best Style’ award. US rapper Eminem was given the ‘Global Icon’ prize for lifetime achievement along with ‘Best Hip-Hop’, just a week after being declared artist of the year at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards. Whereas ‘Thirty Seconds to Mars’ won the ‘Best Alternative’ prize; Justin Bieber held on to his ‘Best Male’ status for a fourth consecutive year, while Beyonce and Bruno Mars won awards for ‘Best Live’ act and ‘Best Song’ respectively. China’s Chris Lee won ‘Best Worldwide’ act.
What will next year’s EMA have in store? We are sure to see chart toppers, international idols, and rock stars to be a part of it.
