The month of September was really boring for movie lovers; not many good movies to cheer about. However, the month of October is surely going to be a treat for cinema lovers. For two reasons particularly: one – the line-up of the movies releasing this month; two – the Mumbai Film Festival begins on 28th. While am really too excited for the later part, I’ve somehow managed to ‘not digress’ from my intention to write this article i.e. to educate you humble readers about a selected few amazing movies releasing in the month of October.
Director: Kanu Behl
Cast: Amit Sial, Ranvir Shorey, Lalit Behl, Shashank Arora, and Shivani Raghuvanshi
Plot: A family based in Delhi thrives by engaging in an uncanny business; car-jacking. The youngest member of the madhouse, Titli, gets frustrated and tries to escape. However, he is soon forced into a marriage. It is then, that things turn around for Titli.
Runtime: 2 hours 4 minutes
This brilliant movie was shown at the Pune Film Festival, last year and has received rave reviews. Don’t you miss out on this one!
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Badge Dale, Ben Kingsley, Steve Valentine, and Ben Schwartz
Plot: Based on a true story; Phillipe Petit dreams of attempting the impossible. He ropes a handful of people who help him out to walk on a thin rope tied between the two towers of World Trade Centre.
Robert Zemeckis is touted to be one of the greatest ‘visual storytellers’ of the industry. Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Cast Away – I don’t think you need another reason to watch this movie, do you?
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Cast: Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, Jon Bernthal, Josh Brolin, and Jeffrey Donovan
Plot: A female FBI agent has to fight against her ethical and moral values when she joins a secret CIA mission to take down a Mexican Cartel
Denis Villeneuve is known for movies like Incendies, Enemy, and Prisoners (I personally vouch for Enemy and Thriller – 2 movies that ought to be in every movie buff’s list). This movie was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Festival 2015. Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro’s performance has received critical acclaim already – one of the best movies of the year so far.
Director: Vikas Bahl
Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Kapoor, Pankaj Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh, and Anjana Sukhani
Plot: Shaandaar explores the chaotic journey of Aliya, Jagjinder Joginder, and Bipin (Aliya’s father)
For those who haven’t yet realized, Vikas Bahl is the guy who directed Queen. If not for anything else, watch this movie for him :P.
Director: Ridley Scott
Cast: Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Jeff Daniels, Mackenzie Davis, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Pena
Runtime: 2 hours 22 mins
Plot: After a fierce fire storm, a group of astronauts leave Mars. Only to find out later that one of their partners, Mark Watney (who is presumed dead after the fire storm), is still alive. A daring rescue mission is then planned to bring him home.
Ridley Scott does not need a formal introduction really – Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster – there are many more that I could add to the list. His last movie, Exodus, received a mixed response at the box office.
These 5 movies will keep you hooked for this month. And if you can’t get enough of movies, the Mumbai Film Festival is coming soon!
