The month of February brought with it a couple of must-watch movies. And if you followed our previous article, you might have caught a few of those movies which we recommended. Though the likes of Fitoor did not deliver on its promises, other films like Neerja and Aligarh are being showered with critical acclaim. Following our tradition, we bring to you the movies to watch out for in the coming month of March.
Zubaan | 4th March
Promising newcomer Vicky Kaushal teams up with VJ turned actress Sarah Jane Dias in this musical drama about a young artist who needs to overcome his fears in the musical field. Vicky Kaushal gave a sublime performance in Masaan and it would be interesting to see him in a different role. Sarah Jane Dias, who is fresh from her success in Angry Indian Goddesses, plays a woman who supports and motivates the lead. There is a dearth of music oriented movies in our industry and one with such an interesting cast is surely welcome.
Jai Gangaajal |4th March
Giving tough competition to Zubaan is Prakash Jha’s intense follow up to his 2003 police drama Gangajal. One of the most interesting things to note in this film is that Mr. Jha has flouted conventions by replacing Ajay Devgan in the lead by Priyanka Chopra. A welcome change, since we have never seen a movie being carried entirely on a lead actress who is especially playing a police officer. Watch out for this one.
Kapoor and Sons |18th March
When I first saw the trailer of Kapoor and Sons, I was immediately reminded of Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do or at least what it should have been. Kapoor and Sons, directed by Shakun Batra under Karan Johar‘s banner, looks like a much better version of Dil Dhadakne Do. A splendid cast includes Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Rishi Kapoor, who is unrecognizable under layers of make-up. Shakun Batra made a nice little film in Ek Main Aur Ek Tu which had an unconventional ending. Let’s see whether he brings the same quirkiness to this movie.
Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice |25th March
Move over Bollywood, because the big daddy of all superhero movies is about to come to India. This epic battle between the invincible Superman and the resourceful Batman is one of the most hotly anticipated movies in probably the history of cinema. While Marvel has created a vast universe and outed two Avengers movies already, this movie would mark the beginning of a similar attempt by DC. Marvel’s fans would flock to the cinema in hopes that this doesn’t touch their beloved franchise while DC fans would line up to prove to their Marvel counterparts that this is how it’s supposed to be done. The trailers have already shown great promise with many saying that Ben Affleck has really nailed the Batman role.
