Back when the original Moto G was announced, it created a storm because of the features offered for a give-away price. At the time you thought Motorola had squeezed everything they could into the budget smartphone, keeping its price in mind. But it seems that Motorola has done it again. And how! The newly announced Moto G 3rd generation is leaps and bounds ahead of the original, for the same price! What’s more, the new device boasts premium features like IPX7 certification, making it water resistant.

We believe the new Moto G is the ideal device for budget Android users. Motorola have put in enough power into the device to run like a charm. The device features a quad-core 1.4 GHz CPU, and an Adreno 306 GPU. There are two versions of the device, with the only difference being the internal memory and RAM. The 8 GB version, which houses a RAM of 1 GB, costs approximately Rs. 1000/- less than the 16 GB version, which comes with 2 GB RAM. We would, of course, go with the 2 GB RAM version since the handset will run smoother with better RAM and more internal memory.

The Moto G 3rd generation has truly left all of its competitors behind. There are hardly any devices out there that feature the specifications equal to the Moto G with a price tag of Rs. 12,999/-. Let’s take a look at how the Moto G towers over its competitors

  • IPX7 Certification: Water Resistant for up to 1 meter under water for 30 minutes
  • 5 inch IPS Display with 294 PPI ( 720 x 1280)
  • Android Lollipop (5.1.1)
  • Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU
  • 8 GB Internal Storage with 1 GB RAM
  • 16 GB Internal Storage with 2 GB RAM also available
  • 13 MP Primary Camera with dual-tone flash
  • 5 MP Secondary Camera
  • Gesture Controls for quick access features
  • Non-removable, 2470 mAh battery

Gesture Controls!!!

As is evident from the spec sheet, the device is a neatly packed with great hardware, which makes it worthy of the price tag. The gesture controls in the Moto X have finally been brought into the Moto G.

  • One twist and the device automatically launches the camera
  • Another twist will activate the front camera
  • A chopping motion activates the flash light

The new Moto G also features a tremendous upgrade in the battery department. Now a 2470 mAh battery powers the device. Initial testing shows that the new battery lasts for a commendable 2 days with average usage.

Sure, there are a couple of devices in the same price range that have similar specs. The Samsung Galaxy J for example. The Samsung device features a similar screen but with the much touted SuperAMOLED display, and a slightly larger battery. But it does not have the water resistant certification that the Moto G boasts of. Yet another phone is the new Micromax A310 Canvas Nitro. The phone equals the Moto G in almost all departments, except the IPX7 rating, of course. The iPhone 4S, now available for approximately Rs. 14,000/- is also a worthy competitor with its superior camera and smoother iOS operating system. The screen, though smaller, is still better than the Moto G as far as pixel density and viewing angles are concerned. But some may consider it outdated and we simply disagree. The Moto G 3rd generation scores great in all departments compared to these phones and truly soars with its water resistant certification.

So there we have it, another generation passes and we are treated with a brand new Moto G that is both sturdy and powerful. The smartphone is available on Flipkart right now for a price of Rs. 11,999/- for the 1 GB version and Rs. 12,999/- for the 2 GB version. A great screen, more than adequate hardware specs, a 13 MP camera and the IPX7 water-resistant rating is the final cherry on top of the delicious cake that is this new phone.
