Headed by Mawi Keivom, UK-based jewellery design firm Mawi will foray into India soon. Known for her statement pieces, Mawi Keivom’s designs have generous doses of spikes, skulls and tribal details. The Manipur born Keivom draws inspiration from her Northeastern roots as well as from other traditional jewellery of India. Some of her previous collections named as Punk Rajah, Gypsy Rani and Indian Rose have an influence of distinct punk, industrialism and art deco.
Mawi’s latest collection ‘Indian Odyssey’ will be showcased at the upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014. The show will present Mawi’s thirty statement pieces which will be complimented by an outstanding collection by the Indian couturier, Gaurav Gupta.
Mawi’s debut collection in India includes two lines, Costume Luxe and Heirloom, while the former is inspired by architectural structure, the latter is inspired by royal estate and vintage jewels. Her jewellery thrives on coloured gemstones and statement-making designs which sync well with the drama and grandeur of India’s tradition.
Mawi’s designs are the most-sought after by Hollywood fashionistas like Rihanna, Emma Watson, Cheryl Cole, Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller. With so many lovely lasses parading her designs, the statement pieces are poised to be the star attractions at the high end luxury soirees at Fashion Week, so watch out!
