Millions of people from across the globe participate in the stream of spirituality and knowledge on the banks of sacred rivers to celebrate Kumbhmela. It is believed that bathing in these sacred rivers cleanse human souls leading to complete salvation. Depending upon the celestial alignment of traversing planets, it is celebrated at four different locations, Haridwar, Allahabad, Ujjain and Nashik (and Trimbakeshwar).

There is a legend behind celebrating Kumbhmela; it is believed that during the fight between Gods and Demons over nectar, Lord Vishnu flew away with the pot containing nectar. A few drops spilled at four different places where it is celebrated even today. The main centre for the Kumbh event of 2015 is at the holy spot of Trimbakeshwar (near Nashik) which houses one of the 12 jyotirlingas in the Indian sub-continent.
