Spread the love

Looking to go for a Holiday? Try Ooty – a lush green, mind freezing cool place, where if you go once would like to go at least one more time. It is like any classic hill station but what sets it apart from the other places is the smell of Eucalyptus in the air. Incidentally, the flowers of these trees which are blue in color give the atmosphere, the Blue Haze. This distinct smell will suddenly jolt you up and at the same time soothe your senses.

There are various ways to reach Ooty. But, Coimbatore is the closest to reach there, it is more or less 100 kms from Coimbatore and the drive is truly scenic with the Nilgiris around you covered in green. There is availability of public and private transport to go up the hills. There are loads of places to stay which will suit all sizes of the pockets.

Ooty boasts of some very good sightseeing spots for the family to enjoy as well as romantic places which are a visual delight.

Boating at Ooty Lake

There is a lake on one side of Ooty, which is more like a huge reservoir of water. One can hire a boat; pedal boats as well as rowing boats are the major attraction. There is a small train line, like a toy train which arcs the part of the lake, almost touching the lake, which will give you a truly exhilarating experience.

Nilgiri Mountain Railways

Another most famous tourist attraction of Ooty is the one of its kind Nilgiri Mountain Railway. This is so unique because it over 100 years old and it passes through various tunnels and in-numerous bridges. It covers 26 miles in 4 hours. Again here what sets these wheels apart from other trains is that the tracks are smaller in size unlike the meter gauge we are so used to travelling by.

The Rose Garden

There are other sightseeing places like Doddabetta Peak, Mukurthi National Park, St. Stephen’s Church and many more, but not to be missed famous place is The Rose Garden of Ooty. Part of the Botanical Garden it is the largest Rose Garden in the country. The climate of Ooty is conducive for irrigation of Roses and the world famous Ooty Flower Show is the highlight of the summer season.

So, if you want to bring that spring back to your step. Go Ooty go.
