We all love beach holidays for the relief it provides from the mundane life of cities. Soaking under the sun, enjoying the scenic beauty of beaches is what we all love. However, what we don’t love is the tanning that develops on sun-exposed body parts. But, now there is no need to worry about this, as there are home-made remedies to get your natural skin colour back. So, go ahead and dig in your kitchen to fight that tan.


The best remedy for tanned skin is raw potato. All you need to do is peel off the outer skin and mash the potato in a blender. Then, apply it over the tanned parts of the body. Once the pack dries, wash it off with normal water. For best results, you can even add lemon drops to the mixture. Natural skin lightening agents present in lemon will give you great results.

Gram Flour

Gram flour mixed with normal or rose water is also recommended to get rid of the tan. For best results, add lemon juice and yogurt to the mixture, which will leave your skin feeling soft and supple. If you are not very fond of using yogurt, you can even replace it with raw milk. If you have dry skin, add some drops of almond oil to the mixture.


Due to its cooling tendency, yogurt is also preferred for tan removal. In case, you have sensitive skin, yogurt will help reduce skin redness and also tighten the pores. For best results, one must apply it every day for at least 15 days before the bath. You could also add tomato juice and lemon drops to quicken the process of tan removal.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is an excellent remedy to remove the holiday tanning. Aloe Vera gel can be easily extracted from the plant’s leaves and applied on the affected areas. However, Aloe Vera is photosynthetic in nature and hence it is important that whenever you step out in the sun, you use a good sunscreen lotion to ward off harmful sun rays.

Raw Milk

Raw milk is ideal for treating skin tanning. It can be mixed with a pinch of turmeric along with lemon drops. Apply this mixture to your body and let it dry. Wash it off with normal water. Please ensure that you don’t use hot water as it further dehydrates skin. Also, you can you saffron and soak it overnight in milk and use it the next morning over the affected areas. This not only helps in tan removal but also lightens complexion.


Sandalwood is a common ingredient used in a range of beauty products and cosmetics. The natural occurring element cools down skin instantly and relaxes the senses as well. It can be mixed with turmeric powder and milk and then applied on the skin. If your skin is dry, mix it with almond or coconut oil to get a fresh and glowing skin.
