By now many of you might be aware of the fact that GOSF stands for ‘Great Online Shopping Festival’. (if not, you just did (y)) By calling it the magnum opus of online shopping festivals am I being just too promotional? No sir, let me give you some insights on GOSF. (oh BTW the definition of the word magnum opus at the beginning was actually for those who think magnum can only be associated with Budweiser)
12.12.12 – how can we ever forget this epic date? Apparently while some were busy fantasizing about the world coming to an end (on 21.12.12); few intelligent species (of the Google origins) were quietly planning an Online Shopping Festival that later changed the face of Indian e-commerce Industry. Yes, it was on 12.12.12 that Google India partnering with around 90 e-commerce websites offered heavy discounts and deals to customers. So why would I say it was successful?
In its very first year the festival attracted more than 16 million hits!!!
Given that it was just a 24hr shopping window; 16 million hits – not bad huhh!!! Successful would be an understatement really. Also, most of the participating retailers created a special landing page for GOSF to engage the visitors and retain their attention through games and other interactive activities.

In the second edition of the festival, Google decided to host the festival for 3 days – 11th and 13th December. However, because of the overwhelming hits and sales of products the festival was extended by one day. Besides from registering significant traffic growth, the e-commerce companies had their products sold out 15 hours into the festival.

4 – No. of days the fest was hosted.
I really don’t want to bore you by playing Maths and Statistics here but the bottom-line is; most of the online shopping sites that participated in the event reported an increase in their sales revenue by upto 40%.
Yes, there were technical issues associated and there were complaints by customers about failure of transactions. Such hiccups were bound to happen, don’t you think so? Can’t we all for once be a little considerate towards those humanely human beings trying to actually treat us for good? Yes we can!!!
