The saree is no longer an aunty’s outfit, nor something that women are just expected to switch to donning post marriage. If anything, the saree is getting increasingly adventurous and is grabbing eyeballs on a global platform.
Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor recently stole the limelight as she sashayed the Cannes 2013 red carpet in a stunning oft white Chantilly lace Anamika Khanna saree and a full sleeve length jacket to give it an ethereal twist. The look was appreciated in India and Sonam made sarees with a twist a trend to reckon with, world over. However, sarees with a dash of funk to it are not something new back home and it’s been a few years now that experiments with the six yards began surfacing to the mainstream.
Designer Tarun Tahiliani has been teaming the traditional six and nine yards with metallic waist bands since decades. Designer Abraham Thakore took it a step forward and was seen sending his models in saris held in place at the waist by extremely modern patent leather slim belts.
