With Instagram gaining so much popularity with food pictures or the ‘artsy’ black and white long shot picture of speakers, Selfie was born. A selfie is nothing but a picture taken of yourself with your arm showing (the one holding the camera) and posting it on social networking sites. IF you are a pro at taking selfies then you would know how to angle the camera without the arm showing.

As Urban Dictionary puts it, ‘You can usually see the person’s arm holding out the camera in which case you can clearly tell that this person does not have any friends to take pictures of them so they resort to Myspace to find internet friends and post pictures of themselves, taken by themselves. A selfie is usually accompanied by a kissy face or the individual looking in a direction that is not towards the camera’.

Awarded the Word of the Year last year, it just goes to show that the world was busy clicking it’s own pictures. Let’s look at the most famous selfies in the past two years, chronologically, shall we?

Curiosity Satellite Selfie @TheRoyaleIndia

With machines slowly and slowly taking over man, it is no surprise that this guy ended up clicking a selfie with, nothing less, but a 5 km. tall Martian mountain in the background. NASA released this picture in December 2012 after combining photos which Curiosity had clicked. It used the Mars Hand Lens Imager (mounted on its robotic arm) and turned the camera towards itself, clicking a series of pictures.
