Book series teens can’t missJune 17, 2013 261 0 0
Books are and always have been an integral part of childhood. There is a saying that goes – books are man’s greatest treasure – well, I absolutely agree. Books set minds free – free from the boundaries and limits of the material world, free to explore the limits of imagination.
Most people are under the impression that teenagers of the 21st century have abandoned books. Well, I say not. Judging by the large fandoms and incessant debates about various books all over the internet, the book craze in the youth is very much alive. Some of these books you may already know, others you may not – there are hundreds. However, there are a few books that are a must read for every teen out there. So here is a compilation of awesomest books ever written:
Every human being on planet earth has to know about Harry Potter- the absolute masterpiece from J.K.Rowling. Seven books, eight movie adaptions, an entire theme park and collectibles are the constituents of the world that is Harry Potter. The story is about an ordinary boy, (you guessed it, Harry Potter), who lives with his horrible aunt and uncle…until, he discovers he’s a wizard and is accepted into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And there, then start his numerous adventures. Along with his best friends Ron and Hermione, Harry repeatedly has to confront- an defeat – the Dark Lord Voldemort. Magic, wands, dragons, charms, giant squids and quidditch all in one place. What is there not to love?
Heroes of Olympus
This one is a sequel to the Percy Jackson series. The Heroes of Olympus combines Greek and Roman mythology to give its readers a mind blowing read. This series is kind of a continuation of the adventures of the modern day demigod, Percy who along with other six demigods goes on a fantastic adventure to save the Gods and the world as we know it. The series compromises of all the characters’ different points of views. Each character i.e. Jason, Percy, Annabeth, Leo, Hazel, Frank and Piper, has a different power which gives each a different personality as well. Giants and monsters, pegasi and hydra, gorgons and centaurs…enter the world of Rick Riordon. Another fact that makes this series a must read, is the fact that you get to learn- and enjoy- mythology, a thing which would be boring otherwise.
This wonderfully dark and hilarious series by Derek Landy is a must read, irrespective of your age. It talks of a world which exists alongside ours, hidden from our sight. This world is full of mind-boggling stuff- sorcerers and mages who strive to protect the world (secretly, of course) from the dominion of evil. The main character is Skulduggery Pleasant, a skeleton detective who along with his partner, a teenage girl, Valkyrie Cain, works for the Sanctuary to keep crime at bay. This series has delicious twists time and again along with a perfect blend of humour, horror and fantasy. Skulduggery Pleasant is one series you can’t miss.
Love James Bond? Love spies and thrills? If so, this is the series for you. This set of books from Anthony Hororwitz, follow the missions of Alex Rider- a teenage spy who works for MI6. But unlike the iconic James Bond, Alex is extremely reluctant to become a spy, and only agrees to be one by constant manipulations by the MI6. Action- packed and complex, with ingenious criminal masterminds, cutting-edge gadgets and riveting plots, Alex Rider is one thrilling read.
The Secret Series
As the name suggests this awesome series by Pseudonymous Bosch, is a secret story about a Secret. The names of the books themselves- The Name of This Book is Secret, If You Are Reading This Its Too Late, This Book Is Not Good For You, This Isn’t What It Looks Like and You Have To Stop This- are enough to make you want to read this series. These books follow the adventures of Cass, Max-Ernest and Yo-Yoji, who are members of the Terces Society and try to keep the Secret from the evil clutches of the Midnight Sun. This series is definitely new and fresh with a very entertaining storyline. A definite must read.
So, fellow readers, embark on your literary adventures with these fascinating and engaging reads…and I promise you, you won’t regret it.
