The recently held 15th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) witnessed a fascinating combination of winners. The four-day long silver screen affair concluded at the Raymonds James Stadium (USA), where the film fraternity congregated to honour the finest performance of 2013. The gala night held at Tampa bay, Florida also saw Hollywood celebrities like John Travolta and Kevin Spacey walking down the green carpet along with bollywood stars.
All said, the actual show-stealer of the award night was director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ who won the Best Picture award. Enacted by Farhan Akhtar, the biopic on ace athlete Milkha Singh collected nine trophies at the IIFA Magic of the Movies and Technical Awards. Akhtar also bagged the ‘Best Actor’ award for his influential depiction of Milka Singh.
On the other hand, Deepika Padukone was recommended in the ‘Best Performance in a Leading Role (Female)’ category for her films — ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and ‘Chennai Express’. However, she won the award for ‘Chennai Express’, and was also awarded with the ‘Best Entertainer of the Year’ award.
Aditya Roy Kapur received ‘The Best Supporting Actor’ award for ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani‘ and Divya Dutta for ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. Eminent actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha was honoured with ‘Lifetime achievement award’. While Arshad Warsi won ‘Best Performance in a Comic role’ for ‘Jolly LLB’, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor won the ‘ Best Performance in a Negative Role’ for the movie ‘D-Day’.
On the other hand, Hollywood actor John Travolta was honoured with the ‘Most Admired Hollywood star’ on the award night. Travolta also uncovered his plans for his debut Bollywood film Paani directed by Shekhar Kapur.
Akin to Oscars, the closing night of the IIFA weekend also witnessed close to 30,000 fans screaming to get a glance of their beloved celebrity, getting their autograph, humming chartbuster songs and clicking selfies.
