8 Hollywood Movies that we’d love to have a remake in Bollywood

December 4, 2014 230 0 0

When it comes to movies (Hollywood or Bollywood) I cherry pick them. No Nonsense!!! No Fuss!!! No Sir, I choose movies meticulously. Of course I try to explore a plethora of genres such as Drama, Mystery, Thriller, Romance, Sci-Fi, and so on. (PS: am yet to come in terms with Horror 😛 )

Inspiration is one thing, copying is one thing, and Remaking is another; Bollywood as we know has had a long history of “Remakes” (copying if I may be precise) – this is another thing that I hate about Bollywood Movies apart from the melodrama and masala. (Please note: This does not make me a Bollywood Hater nor does this make me a Hollywood Lover.)

Official remakes and adaptations if made in a sensible manner never fail. You want examples? Sarkar (Adapted from Godfather), Omkara (Othello), Maqbool (Macbeth), the very recent Haider (Hamlet). (I am a Bhardwaj fan, and Yaaas I know Bang Bang (Knight and Day)) But what part of ‘sensible remakes’ did you guys not understand?

Anyways, let’s not debate on that. We’ll save that for another day. Here I give you 8 Movies I’d love to see remade (adapted) in Bollywood.

1. Eternal Sunshines of the Spotless Mind

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, directed by Michel Gondry and written by Charlie Kaufman, has won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. This movie has crazy cast – Jim Carey and Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood and Tom Wilkinson, but more so the Script is amazing. Initially one may not comprehend the happenings on screen. However, as the movie goes on one gets glued to the storyline. (at least I was).

For the Hindi Remake I’d love to have this cast:

Jim Carrey – Siddharth Malhotra
Kate Winslet – Alia Bhatt

2. The Hangover

This movie was surprisingly crazy. I still could watch it and die laughing all over again. The Hangover won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture, Comedy – and aptly so, the movie deserved it. Although the sequels haven’t had the same impact as the first part had; the trilogy is worth it. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Justin Bartha were super with their screen presence. Okay, so who would you love to see form the coveted ‘Wolfpack’.

hritish_vilkad_kunal_sharman @TheRoyaleIndia

Bradley Cooper – Hrithik Roshan
Ed Helms – Vir Das
Zach Galifianakis – Kunaal Roy Kapur
Justin Bartha – Sharman Joshi

3. Flight Club

David Fincher is an amazing director. I advise you to Google him right away and watch the movies he has directed. Fight Club is one of his classics. (Please Note: His latest release “Gone Girl” is a must watch as well – classic rated already.)

Coming back to Fight Club, Brad Pitt and Edward Norton have put up a brilliant performance and leave you absolutely mesmerized by the end — Amazing script with a twisted storyline (the end that is).

That was the Angrzee star cast, what about us desis?

akshay_varun @TheRoyaleIndia

Brad Pitt – Varun Dhavan
Edward Norton – Akhsay Kumar

4. Jumanji

For me Jumanji is synonymous to Childhood. Oh those good old days and Robin Williams and the young Kirsten Durnst!!!

The movie takes you on an amazing ride and as kids or even as the ’grown-up kids’ that we are; we will surely never get bored of this.

saif_anushka @TheRoyaleIndia

Robin Williams: Saif Ali Khan
Kirnsten Durnst: Anushka Sharma

5. Orphan

This is horror and this is not my choice. (My colleagues suggested this one and am sure it is worth it ;))

A couple adopts a nine year old child and then things take an ugly turn. Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard have justified their roles as the couple while Isabelle Fuhrman has given a peach of a performance. (as reviewed by mu friends 😉 )

Here’s our Indian version.

ranbir_katrina_sara @TheRoyaleIndia

Peter Sarsgaard: Ranbir Kapoor
Vera Farmiga: Katrina Kaif
Isabelle Fuhrman: Sara Arjun

6. Life is Beautiful

LifeIsBeautiful @TheRoyaleIndia

I affirmatively remember, a decade back while studying history in Standard X, one my history teachers told our class to watch this movie. Still thinking why?

Hitler, NAZI, Germany, Concentration Camps, World War II …!!! Oh Life was so Beautiful!!! This definitely rings a bell, don’t it?

The movie beautifully portrays the relationship of a Jewish father and child who are locked in a concentration camp. The father protects his son by convincing him that the concentration camp is actually a game. I won’t elaborate much; you have to watch this one.

However, let’s talk about the Indian version.

Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui , Tabu and Shivansh Kotia

7. Shawshank Redemption

shawshan_-redemption @TheRoyaleIndia

This is one of those movies that leaves you speechless in the climax. Oh yes, Redemption of a different kind indeed!!! Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman have been superb in their roles. (I was in trance for days after watching the movie).

irrfan_khan_naseerusddin @TheRoyaleIndia

The Indian version I feel would only be justified by Irrfan Khan and Naseeruddin Shah. Both of these actors have got their peculiar style.

8. Se7en

se7en_poster @TheRoyaleIndia

David Fincher — Yes, I talk about this guy again. This movie was released almost 2 decades back (now that is a long time ago!!!) and yet is one of the most highly rated Hollywood movies even today.

Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt playing detectives Somerset and Mills respectively, hunt a serial killer who kills his victim with the ideology of the seven sins.

Amitabh-Bachchan_Abhay-Deol @TheRoyaleIndia

For the Indian remake, I choose Amitabh Bacchhan and Abhay Deol.

So, here we are with my list (supposedly) of movies. There are tons of other movies out there screaming to get remade (in a conventional manner that is ;)). Unfortunately I can’t list them all down but you’re always welcomed to share your thoughts with us. And also, we will cover an article featuring “Hindi Movies to be remade in Hollywood”.
