Today, we are going to talk about you, my bride! This is your day, a day which is going to make a revolution in the history of your life for you and others close to you to cherish and remember.
Take your notebook and jot down our five essential guidelines for you!
Keeping a budget in mind and planning around it will make things easier for you since you know how much you can exceed and where you need to curb the expenses. A Christian wedding will have comparatively fewer functions then a Marwari wedding. So if you are going to have a four day wedding or a two day wedding then your budget will alter accordingly since you have to keep in mind the number of outfits you need to buy according to the functions and hair/make-up expenses for each functions. Also budgeting your trousseau is very important since in Indian weddings the bride has to carry lot of things to her new house.
Below is a rough budget allocation:
Total Budget: Rs.2, 00,000
Ensemble for your wedding functions: 50% of your budget (varies depending on the number of functions)
Trousseau: 30% of your budget (varies depending on what includes in your trousseau)
Make-up/Hair: 18% of your budget
Spa or other self-indulgence (optional): 2% of your budget
Note: Budget for your wedding jewellery like gold, kundan, diamond should be estimated separately.
Apart from your two main outfits which is the wedding outfit (pheras) and your reception, the four ensembles that we have mentioned here are for your engagement, haldi function, mehendi/sangeet function and post wedding ceremony (graha pravesh). While deciding on your ensembles keep in mind the season in which you are getting married, summer weddings calls for brighter colors like coral, pink and gold with flowy and light weight fabrics with trending embroideries like chikankari and gota work, whereas winter wedding you can experiment with velvets and other heavy fabrics like brocade, silk satins and heavy embellishments on lace fabric.
Since now a days brides prefer artificial jewellery for the wedding which is light weight and easy to manage, kundan and pearls are a big hit this season.
Take care of your feet during wedding functions, be practical and chose one pair of comfortable shoes preferably a gold or matt gold which can go for all your functions.
Lastly make an inspiration portfolio for your outfits. For example, each function select three to four colors, designs, embroidery and fabric, keep them as a reference point while looking for your outfits.
The reason for the existence of a trousseau is that when the bride enters her new house she does not need to ask for anything. Basic trousseau set consist of saris, salwar kameez, jewellery, hand bags, clutches, make up sets, footwear, lingerie, toiletries and household items. Traditionally some customs expect the bride to carry 21 sarees along with her in the trousseau.
Trousseau packing is a tedious process but fortunately there are many companies providing trousseau packaging services now days. Nevertheless you can do it yourself too. For your sarees and salwar kameez you can buy decorative plastic zipper storage bags which come in various colors. If you have sarees and salwar kameez which are heavily embellished then place them carefully in a muslin cloth and then put in the storage bags, you need to open them once in a while for air to pass through or else they will smell. For your jewellery you can think of buying a beautiful wooden carved chest or a tiled mosaic container which will keep your jewerely safe and act as a décor for your new home too. For your make up you can pick up decorated thaals or wooden basket and cover it with cellophane and ribbons. For your shoes the best option is portable moisture shoe storage bags which are available locally. There are toiletry bags available in polka dot and other prints and for your lingerie there are satin lingerie storage sets available too.
Less is more; this is the make-up and hairstyle mantra you should keep in mind for the bridal season. Subtle make up which should be highlighting one feature of your face either your lips or eyes. You cannot go loud with smoky eyes as well as bright lipstick. Do not use too much shimmer or a heavy pressed foundation on your skin.
Even for the hair, neatly tied up bun for the wedding or a loosely held curls for your reception will play it right.
Be sure to book your make-up and hairstyle artist atleast five months before your wedding since most of them have their appointment book full. Also make sure to take your make-up and hair trial four weeks before the wedding.
Being a bride-to-be can be challenging, so step into your Cinderella shoes and act as a princess. For what you feel is what you going to look on your ‘the day’. So have frequent visits to the spa, pamper and de-stress yourself so that you look all sparkling for your day.
